Gabriel Teah was born on March 7, 2007 and he is an orphan. He is in the Fifth Grade at the Immaculate Conception School in Paynesville.
His mother, Norah Teah, sold used clothes in wheelbarrow to support her family. Norah died from chronic malaria and typhoid. She was sick for two months and was taken to a clinic but the people at the clinic could not properly treat her. Her condition deteriorated and there was no ambulance to transport her to a hospital. She was carried “on the shoulders” for two days. She was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and within seven hours she was pronounced dead.
Gabriel was left in the care of his father, Alosious Teah. Alosious was a fisherman. Unfortunately, his canoe capsized and he drowned.
Gabriel currently lives with his grandmother and aunt. The grandmother is very old and does not have a job. The aunt serves as a home nurse. She does cooking and washing for a community member to earn a small amount of money to help her kids. Gabriel was in desperate need of help and is now helped by a wonderful family in Roseville, California.
You can learn more about Gabriel and life in Liberia in the Teach Peace book, Because I Am An Orphan.
